Abstract

Water quality is a critical factor in maintaining the performance and service life of equipment in steam turbine cooling systems at palm oil mills. Water used in water lube oil coolers may undergo changes in its characteristics after the cooling process, necessitating analysis to ensure its suitability for reuse. This study aims to analyze water quality at the inlet and outlet of the water lube oil cooler and identify changes in parameters. A quantitative descriptive method was used, with 30 data points collected and analyzed based on hardness, total dissolved solids (TDS), and pH. The data were tested using a paired sample t-test to determine significant differences between the inlet and outlet. The results showed that the hardness value decreased from 21.266 ppm to 18.133 ppm, while the TDS value increased from 55.066 ppm to 60.266 ppm. The pH value remained unchanged at 5. Statistical analysis indicated that the changes in hardness and TDS were significant, whereas the pH showed no significant difference. Based on these results, the outlet water can still be reused for non-potable industrial purposes with periodic quality control.
