Abstract

Reduction of oil losses is a critical parameter in evaluating the operational performance of Palm Oil Mills (POM). Implementing a bunch press is a strategic effort to minimize oil losses from empty fruit bunches. This study aims to evaluate the deterministic relationship between the oil content in Empty Bunches (EB) as the machine input and the oil content in Empty Bunch Press (EBP) as the output. The research was conducted at three palm oil mills with processing capacities of 75 tons/hour and 60 tons/hour, which generally utilize fresh fruit bunches of homogenous quality. Operational data from January to April 2026 were analyzed using simple linear regression. Results showed very low coefficients of determination (R2) across all locations: 0.00005 (POM A), 0.0402 (POM B), and 0.0036 (POM C). This high nonlinear variability indicates the absence of a significant correlation between input and output oil content. These findings confirm that oil recovery efficiency in the bunch press unit is more predominantly influenced by mechanical integrity and internal machine parameters rather than variations in the initial oil content of the EFB.
