Abstract

Chili price fluctuations frequently occur during peak harvest seasons due to oversupply and limited postharvest technology at the farmer level. As a result, farmers often sell their harvest immediately at low prices because of the lack of storage and preservation methods. This community service program aimed to assist in implementing ozone technology to extend the shelf life of chili peppers at the Berkah Abadi Jaya Agricultural Producers Cooperative in Lubuk Cuik Village, Batubara Regency. The program included assistance in procuring ozone equipment, technical training, practical application, strengthening cooperative institutions, and community outreach. The training involved 30 farmers and cooperative members. Evaluation results indicated a 65% increase in participants’ understanding based on pre-test and post-test results. The trial showed that ozone-treated chili peppers could last up to two months at room temperature, while untreated chili generally lasted less than one week. Furthermore, the cooperative began developing a technology-based postharvest unit and exploring new market opportunities. These activities demonstrate that ozone technology has strong potential to improve chili shelf life and support cooperative-based postharvest management
